LORDS is proud to announce the appointment of Ms. Myrtle L. F. Lewis as our new principal. Born on April 22, 1959, in Solapur, Maharashtra, Ms. Lewis brings with her a wealth of experience and dedication to education.
Ms. Lewis, the daughter of the late Mr. J.F.A Lewis, a retired English professor, and the late Mrs. Irene M.S. Lewis, headmistress of Central Railway School, showed early signs of wisdom and leadership. She completed her schooling and college education in Shahabad, Karnataka, and earned her B.Ed. from Bellary Dharwad University, securing the IV rank. She also holds an M.Sc. from Gulbarga University.
Her teaching journey began in 1984 at National English School in Bangalore, where she worked as a PGT Chemistry teacher for five years. In 1989, she took on the role of headmistress at St. Mary’s English Medium School in Udupi, where she served for 30 years. Under her leadership, the school was relocated to a new, serene campus in Kannarpady village in 2010. She spearheaded the switch from the State Board to the CBSE curriculum in 2013, enhancing the school’s academic standards and global competitiveness.
Ms. Lewis’s efforts in teacher training and capacity-building workshops significantly improved staff competency and resourcefulness. Her tenure at St. Mary’s saw the school achieve 100% exam results 20 times and successfully launch a Senior Secondary section in 2016.
Her focus on skill enhancement and activity-oriented education led to numerous student awards in science, literature, sports, and theatre at both state and national levels. The school also won the prestigious International School Award from British Council India for two consecutive terms under her leadership.
Ms. Lewis continued her commitment to excellence as the principal of Don Bosco English Medium School in Shirva from 2019 to 2022. At Don Bosco School, she motivated staff and students alike during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, embracing modern technology for online teaching. Under her guidance, the school obtained CBSE board affiliation for the second time and upgraded from secondary to senior secondary level.
She has been recognized multiple times for her contributions to education and has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious President’s Guide Certificate from former President Dr. Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed. She also received the ‘Best Teacher’ award from the Education Department in 2011 and was honored by Syndicate Bank and the Catholic Centre, Udupi, in 2015.
